    السلام عليكم.

The Quran says that the principle behind the awarding of inheritance is that of benefit. Ghamidi Sahab says that the inheritance of daughters is half that of sons because their benefit is transferred over to her in-laws. Then the question arises: why didn’t the Quran award inheritance to daughters-in-law?

Her primary responsibility is towards her husband and children. The care of a father falls on his son, not on his daughter-in-law. This question likely arises from the joint family system prevalent in some Eastern cultures, but this is not a universal family structure. A husband and wife are meant to live together independently. No ethical or religious law obligates a daughter-in-law to care for her father-in-law or mother-in-law.
