I have a robust debate among my peer as to what should be a billable hour on a project.

In a project based work a junior or less experienced person may take 5 hrs to do a task that I for example could complete in 2 hrs the debate is should I bill for 5 hrs (estimated & agreed on) or actual worked that is 2 hrs.?

    TY for your consideration

This has to be decided with the sense of justice by the concerned people.

    JazakAllah for your reply.

I am still unclear. Of course if justice is the principle then I agree one bills actual time spent on a task.

To help w’ the context, if a task is estimated at 5 hrs. for an average technician, but senior technician completes the task earlier(2 hrs. for example) some of my peer think that it is okay to bill 5 hrs. due to the (experience, knowledge, higher skills) work done faster and to higher standards.

Should one charge for the skills and experience and higher caliber of work or is the principle of time used prevails?

Please note the billing is still what was estimated; 5 hrs. I hope this clarifies the ask.

I look forward to your reply. Thank you in advance.

More experienced people charge more because their skills are more polished. This is matter of common sense and justice. Opinions may differ on various applications. You with your friends can debate to reach a consensus.
