Judgement Criteria
The general understanding regarding judgement made by God on the Day of Judgement of a person is that the judgement will be according to situations and circumstances in which the person lived in this world, considering socio-economic circumstances, domicile, ilm, any mental or physical disorder, disorders like addiction (especially addictive disorders contracted before entering into the fold of Islam) or any other shortcomings faced by the person that necessarily came in the way of that person’s conduct and deeds.
Illustration:
A, a pagan, practises marijuana smoking or drinking alcohol or womanising or viewing pornography or fornicating at a regular basis and has been doing so for his entire life (now fully addicted pathologically), before receiving hidayah at the merciful hands of God. A, erstwhile pagan, now Muslim, believes in every facet of Islam, believes from the heart in God’s monotheism, loves God and his holy Prophet, practises the ‘ibaadaat’ and ‘muaamlaat’ devoutly yet, since already addicted pathologically to any of the addicting elements of this dunya, fails to shun it from his conduct. Despite repeated attempts at banishing these sins, he repeats and repeats, asking for forgiveness everytime and practising sabr, yet by virtue of this addiction, no end to these elements is in sight.
What is the conditional criteria in this case for God’s judgement on the Day of Judgement? Will the pathological addiction or socioeconomic considerations or mental or psychological or social or physical disorders be taken into account for judgement, considering that the person strove his best in God’s way?
