A very dear friend of mine is stuck in a situation. She is a Sunni and really like an Ismaili guy and the intention of both is Nikkah. Both the families are religious in their own ways and even the girl is religious but caught up in a very bad situation. Is the Nikkah permissible?

A ceremonial Nikha is always valid between a man and a woman, regardless of their faith. However, Muslims are supposed to be conscious of their faith when they choose their life partner. If they value their faith, they will choose the one who suits their faith, and if they are not that sensitive, the other people cannot decide on their behalf.

The way one does not like to marry an ethically or morally wrong person, is because one is sensitive about these norms, the same way if Mulsim is sensitive about his or her faith, they can decide accordingly.
