Should Islam provide clear moral guidance on contemporary issues faced by humanity such as:

    1. What is my moral responsibility to tackle global warming?

    2. What should be an ethical approach towards digital technological advances such as AI?

    3. What political actions should Muslims take to address social injustices such as gender and income inequalities, discrimination against minority groups etc.

    4. What role should a Muslim play in contemporary social movements such as Black lives matter, #metoo etc.

There are many more questions like that but the reason I am asking this is because I often find this space occupied by social, environmental and political activists, and not by islamic religious leaders. Why are religious scholars not at the forefront of these public discourses? Thanks. Kamran Siddiqi

Islam is concerned with man’s ethical and moral being. Whatever role he is required to perform as an ethical duty or a favour, he is supposed to do it, according to his capacity. Moreover, he is obliged not to harm anyone or anything.

Thanks for your reply. I too see that Islam guides one’s morality and ethics. But where is this guidance on these contemporary issues? Should people like me deduct the correct approach based on Islamic principles ourselves? If so, why do we need scholars?

Islam does not mention each problem. You need to consult your sense of morality to conduct your behavior.
