– adhered to Quran without violating any commands, following its instructions
– obeying messenger without violating above rule

The holy prophet is the source of guidance. Follow him. He gave Quran and His Sunnah (perpecual consensus Sunnah). Follow it with true spirit. and if you make a mistake or misjudge something, just correct it when you realize it, and keep going.
