Why is Democracy Considered shirk by everyone who has mainly read works of Maulana Maududi Sahab and Dr. Israr sahab, they considered democracy as ‘shirk fil-hakimiyyah’ (polytheism in sovereignty) and use word Sovereignty to describe as to why democracy is a great shirk. I understood none of their explanation but they have a strong convictions regarding this. Is there any basis to their claim or have they misunderstood works of Maulana Maududi Sahab.

They think that making the will of the people sovereign is equating with the will of God. The will of God does not need the popular vote to be imposed on them. It has to be imposed by a small organization of pious people. So they make the will of a minority soverign from whom the will of God express itself.
