from Abu Rafi’ and others, from the Prophet (ﷺ) who said: “Let me not find one of you reclining on his couch when a command I ordered, or a prohibition from me comes to him, and he says: ‘I do not know. What we find in the Book of Allah, we follow it.'”

“what He made lawful is lawful, and what he made unlawful is unlawful, and what he was silent about is a pardon.”

How should one look at these two ahaadeeth?

The holy prophet used to apply the commands of Qur’an to matters. The same our scholars do till date. The prophet didn’t not add a new haram or halal in the book. Therefore, it is obvious that the foundation of halal Ans haram are delineated in the Qur’an. The prophet did not add anything. But in the area of application his decision and inference are accepted. One cannot refuse to accept them.

Sir, if prphet did not add anything then why did he say “when a prohibitions come from me”

It is not addition but an application, that is already established, this prohibition needs to be accepted whether one can understand its nature that it is an application or not. That is why our first response should be acceptance then we can try to determine its nature.
