    In normal circumstances, permanent modes of birth control like sterilization, vasectomy etc. should be avoided. One is free to opt any temporary means of birth control.

    If it is a serious health matter, then such a dire step can be taken to save one’s life or to live a healthy life which is otherwise not possible. This is in accordance with the principle of Iztirar (Please see for details on Iztirar: Discussion 50637)
