  • Is It Wrong To Calculate Zakat On Shares @ 2.5%?

Why in zakat calculator there is zakat on investment in shares @ 2.5%? Since ‘means on production ’ is exempt from zakat so when a person buys a share he is basically making an investment in ‘means of production’. Zakat should be calculated only when dividend is paid to shareholder at the rate of 10%. Clarity required?

Share is not a means of production but the money invested. Means of production are land, machine and tools. On investment the rate of zakat is 2.5 percent.

Follow-up questions can be posted in the same thread. There is no need to create a new thread for a follow-up question related to previously asked question.

Thanks for the references. Very helpful. So basically nature of business will determine the ratio of zakat on shares.

Sorry for inconvenience caused by making new threads. I am new here.
