Nature Of Sunnah And Its Mode Of Transmission
Posted by Tayyab Butt on February 14, 2025 at 3:29 amSunnah were oral traditions of Prophet Muhammad and were documented in Hadith over the years and that’s how we came to know about Sunnah. Is this right or there are other sources of Sunnah as well?

This is done through books of ‘fiqh‘ which are documenting ijma and tawatur of every time period.
Ahadith books (Akhbar-i-Ahad) do contain application of both Sunnah and Quranic directives, but they are not source for either of them. Hadith and Sunnah are two different terminologies in our epistemology.
Please also refer to the following discussion which covers all the pertinent discussions of Ghamidi Sahab on the topic of Sunnah and especially how to trace it:

The list could be endless when it comes to fiqh however, caution must be excercised when approaching them to study Sunnah from an academic srandpoint. One should be well versed with Farahi School’s concept of Sunnah in comparison to traditional concept of Sunnah as the definition of Sunnah differs among jurists. The purpose of approaching these books, their content and their jargon should be clear to the reader. It is highy recommended to consult the resources provided above for a better understanding of the concept of Sunnah.
