Asalaamualikum my name is Fahad Saleem, my question is if a man was a thief and used to steal money from his relatives purse at a younger age of around 20 but later on realises his mistake and repents and asks for forgiveness from Allah and committs never to repeat his mistake again. The relative whose money he stole has passed away. Now he is confused as to whether Allah will forgive him on the day of Judgment or not. What other steps can he take to compensate for crime since he cannot ask for forgiveness from his relative now as he is not in this world. Please guide in light of Quran and Sunnah.

One should spend some money on the close relatives of the deceased or help them with something they need. It will make him happy when he comes to know on the day of judgment, and it may persuade him to forgive the person.
