Parents Crying Because Of Our Personal Decisions
How much should we listen to our parents? I’ve heard that we are not obligated to obey them in everything, only to maintain good relations with them.
I want to understand—if our parents strongly disagree with a personal decision of ours, to the point that they cry a lot about it, does that mean we are sinning? For example, a friend of mine is in a love relationship, and his family found out. They belong to a Muslim caste where marrying outside the caste is not allowed. Now, the parents’ ego and emotions are very involved, and they’re deeply hurt that he wants to marry someone outside their caste—even though she’s a good and religious girl.
So in such a situation, what is the right thing to do?
