Quran 3:55 – Domination Of Followers Of Christ Over Jews
In this verse Allah says that HE will make those who follow Isa as superior to those who disbelieved in him until the day of judgement.
So we know that in modern times christians are the ones who associate to be the followers of Isa as. But how are they his followers they do shirk and do the Trinity as well. So how can they be the followers or Jesus and how why would Allah make these shirk doers superior to the ones who rejected him until the day of judgement. So if it’s until day of judgement then surely they must be in modern times also superior.
I read some tafaseer explanation but I am still not getting the meaning of this verse. Who are these followers of jesus today? They surely can’t be the ones doing shirk and worshipping Jesus? The modern Christians?

This superiorty is not superiority in piety, rather it is political superiority or political dominance of the followers of Christ over Bani-Israel. Having domination solely does not guarantee their piety in any way or their righteousness, neither does it prove that they are completely monotheists. It is a declaration of punishment for Bani-Israel, not a free pass for Christians w.r.t their piety. Take another example where Quran 17:5 uses the words ” عِبَادًا لَّنَآ اُولِیْ بَاْسٍ شَدِیْدٍ” which means “My powerful men” referring to those people who inflicted punishment on Bani-Israel. Now we all know that those were oppressors and aggressors (specifically Nebuchadnezzar II) but God used them to achieve one of his divine objectives. Just the way calling them “My Powerful Men” is no certificate of righteousness, same is the case with giving followers of Christ political dominance over Jews. Both of these are punishments on Bani-israel as per divine scheme of God.
