  • Is Covering The Feet Mandatory For Women? Is The Feet Awrah?

Javed Ahmed Ghamidi saheb said in his parda series that covering upto the knees is mandatory for both men and women and this is the minimum. Covering more of the legs is good but not mandatory.

Response to 23 Questions – Part 8 – Veil (Parda) – Javed Ahmed Ghamidi

However, this seems to contradict an authentic narration from the Prophet (PBUH) where he orders women to cover their legs and feet too.

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said:

“The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: ‘Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah will not look at him.’ Umm Salamah said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, what should women do with their hems?’ He said: ‘Let it down a hand span.’ She said: ‘But then their feet will show.’ He said: ‘Let it down a forearm’s length, but no more than that.'”

    Sunan an-Nasa’i 5336

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that:
When the Prophet [SAW] said what he said about the Izar, Umm Salamah said: “What about women?” He said: “Let it down a hand span.” She said: “But then their feet will show.” He said: “Then (let it down) a forearm’s length, but no more than that.”

    Sunan an-Nasa’i 5338

    Other narrations:

    Sunan an-Nasa’i 5337

    Sunan an-Nasa’i 5339

    Sunan Ibn Majah 3580

    Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1731

Doesn’t this sahih hadith make covering the legs and feet mandatory for women too? This contradicts what Javed Ghamidi saheb taught. And he didn’t mention this hadith in his parda series.
