Attitude Of Sahabas To Slavery
Assalamu Alaikum
I watched Ghamidi Sahab’s videos on slavery. According to Ghamidi Sahab’s view, the doors to acquiring new slaves were closed by the following verse :
When you meet the unbelievers in the battlefield, strike off their heads, and when you have thoroughly subdued them, bind your captives firmly – then grant them their freedom (either as a favour or) against some ransom – until the war lays down its armour. (47:4)
My question is, when was this verse sent down? And after the nuzool of this verse, what does the recorded history say about the Sahab’s attitude towards slavery, especially about their acquisition from wars? Do we have any narrations ? Why did Muslim scholars support slavery even after this verse ?
