  • Clarification On The Use Of The Term “Ṣadaqāt” In Surah At-Tawbah (9:60)

Assalam u Alaikum, Respected Mr. Javed Ahmed Ghamdi,

I hope you are well. I have a humble question regarding the wording used in Surah At-Tawbah (9:60). In this verse, Allah (SWT) uses the term “Ṣadaqāt (صدقات)” instead of “Zakāh (زكاة)”, while in many other places in the Qur’an, Zakāh is explicitly mentioned when referring to obligatory charity, and Ṣadaqah is often used for voluntary charity or general donations.
My question is: Why is the term “Ṣadaqāt” interpreted as “Zakāh” in this verse, even though elsewhere the Qur’an maintains a distinction between the two terms?
Additionally, I have come across several references in Surah Al-Baqarah where the term Ṣadaqāt is used, or appears to carry the meaning of voluntary charity. These include: Verses 176, 195, 214, 218–219, and 260–273.
I would be grateful if you could kindly clarify this matter and shed light on the linguistic or contextual reasoning behind this interpretation.
    Jazakum Allahu Khayran,Muhammad Wajahat Hussain.
