  • How Is Polygamy Fair To The First Wife Who Has Supported Her Husband Immensely

I have NO objection to the ruling of Polygamy. But how is this fair to the first wife when she has supported her husband in his struggling period. And now after being solvent he married an other wife. And the first wife is a good lady and their marital life is overall a good marital life. Can a husband REALLY do second marriage just because he is feeling like/ fallen in love? How can a wife then trust her husband and sacrifice her life for his household?

Is there any different opinion regarding this?

Polygamy is not a command in Islam, but neither is it prohibited. The Qur’an, however, advises marrying only one wife, especially if a man fears he cannot uphold justice. If a husband cannot ensure fairness, he should not enter into a second marriage. Moreover, within the marriage contract, a woman has the right to stipulate that her husband will not marry again without a valid reason.

    فَإِنْ خِفْتُمْ أَلَّا تَعْدِلُوا فَوَاحِدَةً

If you fear that you will not be able to treat them justly, then marry (only) one, (4:3)

assalamu alaikum . @Irfan76 . I am not arguing but just want to understand.

I know its not mandatory. But can husband really do second marriage whenever he wants? Even if he has no real reason???

I mean then he can look here and there for another wife any time. And legalize it by second marriage?

I am not arguing. Here my goal is to understanding the point and decide whether I should go for marriage or not.

Yes, it’s no mandatory rather a permission. But can husband really do second marriage whenever he wants ? Like he falls in love with somone and marry her????

I mean isn’t it breaking mutual trust of the wife when she knows that in her society usually it is seemed as a taboo? So it is a common belief on the husband that they won’t do this! So in such cases does it comes under trust breaking

I am not arguing just sharing my confusion
