Knocking On Rooms And Seeking Permission
Does the Surah Noor ayats commanding about asking before entering apply to the rooms of your own house? Like some of the rooms make sense like rooms of couples ( brother and sister in law ) ofcourse, but like most rooms are treated as common areas by the family even if they are given titles such as a sister or brothers room.

It is regarding seeking permission when entering private rooms. Whatever is considered a private room in a house, permission should be sought. Usually common rooms are well known and there’s no doubt about their requirement for privacy. In case of doubt, it is always better to be extra cautious and take permission instead.

What about dwellers of the same room, will wife ask permission to come into a couple’s bedroom if husband is present ?

Room of a husband and wife is private for others, not between them.

ʻAtaa’ ibn Yasaar, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that a man asked the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, saying, “O Messenger of Allah, shall I ask permission to enter upon my mother?” He said, “Yes.” The man said, “I live with her in the house.” The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, said, “Ask her permission.” The man said, “I am her servant (i.e. I tend to her needs).” The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, said, “Ask her permission. Do you want to see her naked?” He said, “No.” He, sallallahu ʻalayhi wa sallam, said, “Then, ask her permission.”Does this mean we must ask permission to enter our own houses?

However, this hadith does not imply that one must ask permission to enter their own house. The context of the hadith suggests that the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was teaching the man to be mindful of his mother’s privacy and modesty.
In Islamic tradition, it is considered polite and respectful to seek permission before entering someone’s private space, especially if it’s a parent’s room. However, this does not apply to entering one’s own home.
