I am a married woman and my mother legally gifted a house to me a decade ago as hiba (a gift). The title was transferred to my name, and for 10 years, I gave her the rental income. Last year, she told me to sell the house and use the money for my family, which I did. I kept her informed throughout the process. Now, she is verbally abusing me, badmouthing me to relatives, and demanding I return the house or the money, even though she consented to the sale. She denies ever giving me permission. This is causing immense emotional and mental distress for me and my family.

    1. According to Islamic law, can a mother demand the return of a gift (hiba) that was legally transferred to her daughter and later sold with her permission?
    2. My parents’ continuous verbal and emotional abuse is severely impacting my mental health and family life. Am I obligated to maintain full contact, or is it permissible to limit communication to protect myself and my family? I tried to be good and patient and normalising things but on every call they attack me with something new.
    3. If I am no longer financially obligated to her, and she continues to abuse me even when I give her money, would I be sinful for stopping these payments?
