  • I Asking For A Careful Islamic Ruling Whether A Talaq Occurred

    Assalam o alaikum,

I am asking for a careful Islamic ruling about whether a talaq occurred, because my mental capacity at the time was impaired.

On Nov 20, during one incident, I said the word ‘talaq’ three times in one sitting

I am clinically diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I have medical documentation and treatment history.

I experience episodes where my impulse control, judgment, and awareness are significantly impaired.

At that time, I was not in a stable mental state. I was extremely agitated and emotionally overwhelmed.

I did not feel in control of my speech. It felt as if the words were coming out without deliberate choice.

I had consumed alcohol before this incident. My awareness and judgment were impaired.

I understand intoxication is sinful, and I take responsibility for that, but I am mentioning it because it affected my capacity at that moment.

I did not have a settled or conscious intention to end the marriage at that moment. I was not making a considered decision; it was an impulsive utterance during mental instability

Given these facts, does Islamic law consider this talaq valid, invalid, or counted as one talaq or 3 talaqs?

I want to act correctly according to Shariah and not assume anything on my own.

I am also trying to repent, stabilize my health, and live correctly. I need guidance, not an easy answer, please and thank you very much.
