If someone has done this, there is no fixed worldly punishment prescribed in Islam unless a court is involved and specific legal conditions are met—which, in cases like this, they usually are not. Islam is very clear that not every sin carries a legal punishment in this life. Many sins are matters between a person and Allah, especially when they are not reported, not prosecuted, and have been sincerely repented from.
What matters most here is tawbah (repentance), and Islam treats repentance with extraordinary mercy, not humiliation. For repentance to be sincere and complete, four things are required:1. Stopping the sin — which has already been done by deleting the content.2. Deep remorse — genuinely feeling regret, not just fear of consequences.3. Firm resolve not to return — a real intention to avoid this behavior again.4. Repairing harm where possible — for example, ensuring the content is fully removed, not reshared, and not defended or normalized.Allah forgives even major sins completely.Allah says:“O My servants who have wronged themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.” (Qur’an 39:53)
There is no requirement to publicly confess, punish oneself, or live in shame. In fact, public exposure of one’s sin after repentance is discouraged, because Islam prioritizes healing over spectacle. The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah loves the servant who sins, repents, and then moves forward—not one who remains trapped in self-loathing.
Psychologically and spiritually, this urge to “unburden the heart”—is actually a sign of life in the conscience, not corruption. Islam does not want that guilt to turn into despair. It wants it to turn into growth: better boundaries, more awareness, and healthier use of creativity and technology.
There is no worldly punishment required here.Sincere repentance wipes the sin away completely.Allah does not keep reminding a servant of a sin He has forgiven. The best “atonement” is to become better than before, not to suffer endlessly. If the repentance is real, then the matter is closed with Allah. The door is not just open—it is wide open.
