    Assalamu Alaikum.

I wanted to ask: Is waking up specifically for sehri compulsory in Ramadan? If someone eats a meal 1–2 hours before Fajr and then sleeps, without waking up again for a separate sehri, is the fast still valid? Is there any religious obligation to eat at a particular time close to Fajr, or is it simply recommended?

    Wa alaikum assalam,
No, waking up specifically for a separate sehri right before Fajr is not compulsory for the fast to be valid.
The only requirement for a valid fast in Ramadan is:You have the intention (niyyah) to fast before Fajr. You stop eating and drinking before Fajr begins.
If someone eats a meal 1–2 hours before Fajr, makes the intention to fast, and then sleeps without waking up again, the fast is completely valid. There is no obligation to eat at a specific time right before Fajr.
However, having suhoor (a pre-dawn meal closer to Fajr) is strongly recommended (Sunnah) because:It gives physical strength for the day.The Prophet ﷺ encouraged it and described it as a blessed meal.Delaying it closer to Fajr is also recommended. But recommended does not mean obligatory. Skipping suhoor does not invalidate the fast.
So there is no religious obligation to wake up again for a separate sehri. It is recommended for benefit and blessing, but not required for validity.
