Realted Hifz E Quran
I memorized the entire Qur’an (Hifz) in about three years after completing 5th grade. At that time, I did not study its translation or understand its meaning; I mostly memorized it through repetition.
Now, about five years have passed, and I have forgotten much of what I had memorized. This has filled me with fear and regret. I have heard hadiths that mention a severe warning or punishment for those who memorize the Qur’an and then forget it.
My biggest concern is this: Does that warning apply to me? Will I be subject to that punishment? Even though I memorized the Qur’an when I was young and without understanding its meaning, does it still count as Hifz in the sense mentioned in those hadiths? Or is the warning only for someone who knowingly and negligently abandons the Qur’an after memorizing it?
I feel deeply worried about my condition and want to correct myself. Please advise me sincerely. What should I do now? Should I start memorizing again from the beginning, revise what I remember, or first focus on learning the translation and understanding of the Qur’an? What is the best way to reconnect with the Qur’an and seek Allah’s forgiveness if I have fallen short?
Also, my parents had the title “Hafiz” added to my name on my national ID card. Does this create any religious responsibility or concern now that I have forgotten much of my memorization?
Please guide me according to the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah. I sincerely want to do what is right and hope for Allah’s mercy.
