    Why Does Ghamidi Sahab Say Hugging Na Mahrams Is Halal?

    I can understand allowing handshakes, but hugging causes sensitive and arousing body parts to come in contact. When a man and a woman hugs, her breasts will touch him and it will arouse inappropriate thoughts in him. Then why does Ghamidi Sahab allow hugging when he also says to not go anywhere near zina? Isn’t it contradictory?

    He has already explained the main point. If a hug is likely to arouse sexual feelings or temptation, then it should be avoided. However, if hugging is simply a cultural custom—similar to how we hug our mothers or sisters—and it does not evoke any inappropriate feelings, then it is not necessarily prohibited. Even so, avoiding such hugs may be considered the more modest and civilized approach.

      But how is it possible that hugging will not result in sexual arousal? The sensitive body parts are touching each other. Ghamidi Sahab explained that for a woman the areas around her private areas and breasts need to be covered. So if breasts need to be covered so carefully, then how is it okay to allow the touching of the same part in the name of a hug?

      In the western cultures where hugging is common today, it wasn’t their culture until last century. In the victorian era and before, hugging between unrelated men and women was unheard of. It started becoming common after the world wars, when the cultural shift started.

      Yes Ghamidi Sahab said it is still better to avoid hugs, but he didn’t call it haram. But doesn’t it become already under the rules of Ghad-e-Basar?

    Those who can’t help but feel sexual attraction should avoid it.

    Ghazz e Basr means to avoid staring or peeping lustfully.
