  • Meher Paid By Father

    Assalamu Alaikum,

I have a fiqh question and would be grateful if someone could answer it, if possible. I would also appreciate it if you could kindly refer me to some relevant references that I can consult for further reading.

Under Islamic law, can the father of an adult Muslim man pay the mahr to the bride on his son’s behalf, using his own money, when the husband has agreed to the amount of mahr? Does the fact that the payment comes from the father’s property rather than the husband’s own property affect the validity of the mahr or the husband’s legal obligation?

I would be grateful for any relevant classical fiqh references or other reliable sources that discuss this issue.

    JazakAllahu Khairan.
