Eg the beard. People have been copying previous generations and it has got ijma. How do we prove it does not have tawatur back to prophet ﴾ﷺ﴿?

We are not questioning its tawatur, we are questioning its status as religion.
Has it been in tawatur as a religious obligation or a non-religious custom, those who establish its religious sanctity do so only on the basis of misinterpreted ahadith.

So as a hypothetical situation if their argumentation was not based on a hadith rather just on ijma and tawatur and naql al kafah an al kaafah we would have no objection?

naql al kafah an al kaafah is a mode of transmission of Sunnah along with other things, what has been transmitted through this mean, for it to be classed as Sunnah, it has to be religion by nature or by status, among other things.
