    Al-An’am – 6:78

Ayaat 76-78 are under discussion. The last phrase إني برىء مما تشركون specifically. Ibrahim عليه السلام First calls a planet/star God, then the moon, then the sun. Then he proclaims innocence from this shirk. Does this mean that his qawm worshipers this start, moon and sun or was this just an arbitrary choice to make an example?

We only know what Quran has told us and if we read it in context we understand what point it’s trying to drive across. Why is it important to understand what his nation worshipped?

Because if this is the case then there is some historical evidence that can be verified to come in conformity with the Quran’s claim if it is a claim like this.

Also just as a curious point to see if the verse suggests this

Can it be taken from these verses that Abraham عليه السلام ‘s people worshipped the sun, the moon, and some other big star?

Ghamdi Sahab explained recently that Sun, moon and stars were used for time.

It can be the evolutionary phase of Hazrat Ibrahim AS.

Hazrat Ibrahim AS broke the idols, the people were the worshiper of idols.

But there Issing research that those people worshipped the don and moon and the Sirius star. It seems like I dahin عليه السلام is demonstrating to them about their own deities

Before this incident starts, the verses 6:74-75 tells that Abraham had already declared his father and his nation wrong for their idolatry, and he had attained faith in one God by watching the system of heaven and the earth. His declaration was his way to lead his people to a conclusion they should reach. this is not a monologue but a public declaration as is evident by the statement I am free from you polytheism (6:78). Also, the same verse tells that these objects too, were deities of his nation.

The matter of historical proof rest with the historians. However, we can assume that it was common in many nations that they worship celestial objects.

Yes so with the demonstration of ibrahim عليه السلام we can take (from the Quran only) that these idols were of these celestial objects whom they had turned into gods. One being the sun, the other the moon, and the other another star
