Are Insects Halal?

Dr. Irfan Shahzad
Scholar September 8, 2020 at 10:14 amIt is left to human nature. Nature means what human generally do in such dietary matters. Mostly they do not eat insects except for some. Same goes for reptiles. They do not eat them except for a few. So here, the ruling comes from human nature, not from the Shariah.

Contributor September 8, 2020 at 10:16 amThe cochineal is a scale insect in the suborder Sternorrhyncha, from which the natural dye carmine is derived. A primarily sessile parasite native to tropical and subtropical South America through North America, this insect lives on cacti in the genus Opuntia, feeding on plant moisture and nutrients.
