    According to Imam Farahi, these are divine names of the surahs. Understanding these names is not required in order to comprehend the message of the Quran. Dr. Shehzad Saleem explains this in the following video:

      A wall being called a wall is different. God has called these surahs something for a reason. If the research is correct then AlifLaamMeem is telling us to take heed of how God has purified the bani Israel (or commanded them towards purity) and how we should do the same. Everything in the Quran should have a strong basis and not be arbitrary like a wall being called ‘wall’

      But I guess I am assuming that the culture of the time gave headings to chapters in this way. Maybe it was simply just a name

    Also- was this known by the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. We assume it was right?
