Reason For All Drugs To Be Haram
Posted by Muhammad Ahmed on October 12, 2020 at 3:08 pmConsidering the list of the haram things
Where can we put taking drugs to be in haram section. Unlike alcohol there are some drugs which do not make a person go wild and do unethical things etc. There is a thing bekhudi and khuda faramoshi. But how can we categorise this in the framework of halal and haram. Quran tells us to prohibit all kinds of drugs ( nasha). M just trying to have the reason which puts all of them in the five haram things list.

Member October 12, 2020 at 4:17 pmI understand the sadd e zarya asuul. Also the addiction thing. But m trying to reach at the basis. Some drugs dont get a person that much high like alcohol that one loses his hosh o hawas or he indulges in ghair ikhlaqi behaviour. So what would be the cause of prohibiting it other than saying that because God prohibited it and it causes addiction. Addiction is caused by caffeine n nicotine but they are not considered gunah as they are not ikhlaqi buraiyan. So not all addictions are Islamically wrong but they way to avoid them is the sadd e zarya rule.
One reason which i come up is that by doing such stuff what a person goes through is a condition of bekhudi. Which leads to khuda faramoshi. But can be a thing be prohibited on this rule?

Moderator October 12, 2020 at 4:34 pmAddiction is not a basis for prohibition. The basis for prohibition of dietary things is their distinction between khabaees and Tayyab. It is this Nasha factor which makes one’s aqal ineffective at a certain level of consumption. It is this same Nasha factor which makes a dietary item Khabees. There are some clear prohibitions in this category like alcohol, weed etc. which are known to cause Nasha at certain level of consumption as a general principle, therefore their smallest of quantities would be prohibited right from the start. In-between these categories would be some mushtabihaat items which one can lean onto both sides (nasha and non-nasha), for these kind of mushtabihaat categories, the guidance of Prophet (sws) is that it is a requirement of taqwa that one should choose to refrain from them. However, if someone leans the other way for mushtabihaat things, then we are not ought to give fatwas against them.

Member October 12, 2020 at 4:24 pmI have seen people go about their lives quite normally. Even praying as well. Its just a lil alteration of state of mind to them. Aren’t the anti depressants supposed to do the same thing. On the same rule west allows marijuana for health treatments. Where do we draw the line. Whats the basic rule that we have to consider for such stuff. Majority of our youth is going through this

Member October 13, 2020 at 2:12 amWhat makes Nasha a sin is the “impairment of mental ability”. This falls under injustice (and it could be related to any of the 5 categories of sins depending on the activity). It damages not only our own body that Allah has entrusted us to discharge our obligations during our time on the Earth but it may also harm others.
There are two kinds of addictions — (1) stimulants, like coffee that improve mind performance (2) depressants, like alcohol, that impair mind performance.
Only the 2nd type of addiction is a sin for being a risk to himself and others
A drug addict person loses his ability to think straight and make rational decisions and therefore he ends up doing insane acts like banging the car while drunk driving . You can imagine how it can leads to injustice to many people around him.

Member October 17, 2021 at 3:24 amsome drugs i. e Marijuana, Hookah, Cigirate are harmful for physical health but don’t affect mental state….. how can they be haram….. because even wheat, rice etc can cause bunch of health diseases……considering the criteria you said before anything that can cause health problems are haram…. than these should be Haram

Member October 17, 2021 at 10:07 amYou have to weigh pros and cons. If harm is greater than the benefit you are supposed to keep away from it. I have understood this principle from Quran.
