47:4 ‘So Tighten The Bond’
Muhammad – 47:4
Arabic
فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فَضَرۡبَ ٱلرِّقَابِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَثۡخَنتُمُوهُمۡ فَشُدُّواْ ٱلۡوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنًّۢا بَعۡدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَآءً حَتَّىٰ تَضَعَ ٱلۡحَرۡبُ أَوۡزَارَهَاۚ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَوۡ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ لَٱنتَصَرَ مِنۡهُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لِّيَبۡلُوَاْ بَعۡضَكُم بِبَعۡضٍۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ قُتِلُواْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَن يُضِلَّ أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ
Why are they being told to first make the people into slaves and then release them afterwards? (From what I’ve researched ‘to tie the bond’ means to make into a slave)

I think the answer is in same ayah which say throughly subdue them

What was the point of making slaves though- just to set them free?

I think it’s during the war, not in normal circumstances

Of course- but why make the slaves anyway- just to release them by favour or random?

It is not to make them slaves but to make them captives of war and then deal with them according to two options while making them stay as captive and not as slaves.
