And [in this regard, another] incident should be kept in consideration27 when Abraham said: “Show me, Lord, how You will raise the dead?” He replied: “Do you have no faith?” “Yes, but just to reassure my heart” said Abraham. God said: “Take four birds28 and tame them29, and [cut their bodies to pieces] and place a piece of them on each mountain-top, then call them back. They will [come back to life and] come swiftly to you, and [for the future] fully understand that God is mighty and wise.”30 (260)
Instead of having to add ‘cut their bodies’ because of the word juz- mufti Abu layth says that his just means place a portion (eg 1 of the 4) on each mountain and they will come flying back to you. Is this translation possible- would the question of ibrahim عليه السلام be answered?

If God intended to say to keep every one of them on the mountain the words could have been something like that:
اجعل علی کل جبل کل واحد منھن
the word Juz, means part, which indicates that they were no longer alive. moreover as you rightly pointed out, Abraham’s questions can only be answered if the birds are dead and come alive. otherwise, coming of one’s pet bird on his calling has nothing to do with the sign or evidence of resurrection.
