What would be an acceptable source of confirmation in your mind?

Quran or maybe some strong hadith

Fair enough. As long as you don’t insist on a first hand confirmation!

From the Quran we know that on the day of judgement our accountability will be based on our deeds. Furthermore, the God that we worship is by default the most merciful and the most compassionate entity. With this we infer that those souls who did not get a chance to take the test of life will certainly be in a happy state.

I’m pretty sure that we have had a discussion on this topic before.

I think that was more related to children dying in punishments after itmam e hujjat.

Isn’t a more sound inference that those who don’t do the test don’t get rewarded or punished?

    Al-A’raf 7:172

The only issue would be that this ayah suggests that ALL of bani Adam took this oath so ALL would be perhaps accountable for it.

But they would or should only be accountable if they were presented with situations where they could actually be tested. And if they died so early then they wouldn’t get tested.

To say that the children will be wildaanun mukhaldun is just an assumption surely. Allah can create wildaanun mukhaldun out of nothing, he doesn’t need to bring children and then give them death.

Also if we think of children who die in a painful manner, if they were just a test for parents couldn’t there have been a less painful way for it? It kind of ties in with animals that why does sacrificing them for food have to be painful?

May I propose an alternative theory. Allah can’t be unjust and that we know from Quran. We also know we are here for a test. The test has to be fair or others will complain on the last day. So I do not think children will go to heaven by default without a test, but only from our perspective.

Parallel universe or something similar may be an answer. It may be possible that when a child dies, from our perspective we see a dead child and burry the body and continue with our life. The dying of child was part of our test.

On the other hand, from a child’s perspective, the child doesn’t die and continues his life until he dies in an older age. This was the child’s test.

On the last day, Allah may shows us the full life test of the child.

The following may support the theory of multiverse or parallel universes.

The Quran says that there are seven universes and each universe has an earth:

Allah is He who created seven universes and of the earth a similar number. His directives keep descending in them. (65:12)

Brother Faisal, from my perspective it is on topic in response to if children will go to heaven by default. It proposes a theory that they might be tested as well and explains how they might be tested.

An interesting view point of this question was given in the book authored by Rehan Ahmed Yusufi in his book “jab zindagi Shuru hogi”.

In that he mentions that when the question was asked about who wants to take the test of this life, the humans who stepped back are bacc sent to earth as babies and so on.

This is just a view point, idk if this is just his imagination or he got it from a primary source.
