Doing Shirk knowingly and doing shirk as an honest mistake of understanding are two different things. There can be room of forgiveness in the latter case, but if one follows any religion honestly, one is ought to have studied their religious scriptures and after going through that and after having an understanding of overall premise of Islam and its final religious scripture available in the purest of forms, there won’t be any room left for one to stay in any other religion.
