Killing A Serial Killer
You encounter a serial killer who is about to behead an innocent soul in front of you. Would and should you kill him/her to save another soul or simply observe him/her doing his/her job since Islam does not allow you to kill someone (even a killer since you’re not the court/judge) intentionally?
It is known and understood that he/she is a murderer.
It is understood and known that he/she would kill the captive if not stopped.
It is understood that you cannot hurt him/her in any way except just killing.

By that time you’d have already lost the captive.
So, the question is of either pulling the trigger (letting the killer die) or not pulling the trigger (letting the captive die).

Principally, in situations where one value contradicts with another, one has to make a decision based on their own knowledge and understanding of the situation and it’s consequences. Since situations as well as people involved vary greatly, a general ruling can’t be given on the basis of hypothetical situations.
