Moderator July 10, 2021 at 8:08 amThere are no specific guidelines regarding Istisqa Salah. Prophet Muhammad (sws) offered istisqa prayer as a nafal prayer (optional prayer) the way he used to offer other nafal salah. Just the way we pray to God for help in other worldly matters, this prayer was offered with the specific objective of praying to Allah for rain. Regarding prayers and their acceptance, following points must be kept in mind:
How Prophet (sws) used to pray istisqa, please refer to the following text from Meezan:
…”(5) To ask for Rain:
Narratives mention that the Prophet (sws) offered two rakat to beseech the Almighty to send rain. In religious parlance, this prayer is called istisqa. These narratives say that the words of the prayer were recited out loud and before the prayer, the Prophet (sws) supplicated before the Almighty by raising his hands for a long time while facing the qiblah. [16] One of the supplications uttered by him on such occasions is:
اللَّهُمَّ اسْقِنَا غَيْثًا مُغِيثًا مَرِيئًا مَرِيعًا نَافِعًا غَيْرَ ضَارٍّ عَاجِلًا غَيْرَ آجِلٍ
O Lord! Drench us with rain that answers our calls; whose consequences are good, which makes things cheaper, which is beneficial and not harmful and which comes soon and not late” [17]…

Narratives also mention how the Prophet (sws) shifted his cloak from one shoulder to another, and people generally consider this to be a part of worship. However, no such thing can be regarded as part of worship unless the Prophet (sws) specifies it.
