Hardening of heart means, that man becomes ignorant of God and his commands. Indulging too much in anything which causes man forget God and his duties from God like saying prayer on time, ignoring what is Halal and Haram etc, is hardening of heart. There comes a time, when reminding him does not affect and his heart becomes as hard as a stone.

Music is not haram but if it contains Fuhush, i.e, indecent or obscene stuff, that indecency or obscenity is haram. Not all music contains Fuhush.

Music is the beauty which God has created. Listening to some sort of music rather softens hearts. Islam does not forbid from doing anything which is not haram like laughing or enjoying music or art etc, but indulging too much in merry making, for example, may lead to forgetfulness, so whatever one do, one should keep God remember and the duties on him from God.
