Are Gemstones Prohibited In Islam?
It is Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad PBUH to wear gemstone in his hand. However, I have also come across hadeeths (not certain about authenticity) of Prophet Muhammad PBUH recommending certain gem stones. There are also sayings of Ali RA recommending gemstones. I always understood that believing that stones have powers is Shirk. However, Allah did not create anything without a purpose and if Allah gave certain properties to gemstones that can affect the wearer just like food, medicine, etc can affect us then why is that considered Shirk? In that sense, wouldn’t medicine be considered shirk as well? There is also no direct Ayah or Hadeeth prohibiting wearing of gemstones. Would really appreciate an explanation about this topic. Thank you.
