Hadith On Showing Off Favours Given To Others
Abu Dhar Gifari (Ra) narrated that the Prophet (Pbuh) said, ‘Three kinds of people whom Allah will not speak to, look at or exonerate on the Day of Judgment, and they will have a painful torment. they are the one who wears the hem of his garment low (out of pride), he who reminds recipients of his charity to them, and he gwho sells merchandise swearing that he paid more for it than he actually did.” (Sahih Muslim)

Yes, this hadith falls within framework of religion (i.e. Quran and Sunnah) and has a healthy chain of narrators as well. The Hadith is referring to the person who has made this a habit to remind recipients of charity of his favour everytime he does that. This chronic attitude is what makes a perpetrator eligible for Hell on the day of judgement and this tantamounts to a major sin. However, committing this mistake once or twice under ignorance or depending upon a certain situation where such a reference was required, don’t fall in this category.
Following is the translation done by Ghamidi Sahab:
عَنْ أَبِيْ ذَرٍّ ، ۱ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰہِ صَلَّی اللّٰہُ عَلَیْہِ وَسَلَّمَ: ’’ثَلَاثَۃٌ لَا یُکَلِّمُہُمُ اللّٰہُ، وَلَا یَنْظُرُ إِلَیْہِمْ یَوْمَ الْقِیَامَۃِ، وَلَا یُزَکِّیْہِمْ وَلَہُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِیْمٌ‘‘، فَقُلْتُ: یَا رَسُوْلَ اللّٰہِ، مَنْ ہُمْ خَابُوْا وَخَسِرُوْا؟ فَقَالَ: ’’[الْمَنَّانُ الَّذِيْ لَا یُعْطِيْ شَیْءًا إِلَّا مَنَّہُ، وَالْمُنَفِّقُ سِلْعَتَہُ بِالْحَلِفِ الْفَاجِرِ، ۲ وَالْمُسْبِلُ إِزَارَہُ]‘‘. ۳
ابوذر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا :تین لوگ ایسے ہیں جن سے اللہ نہ بات کریں گے،نہ قیامت کے دن اُن کی طرف نگا ہ التفات سے دیکھیں گے اور نہ اُنھیں پاک کریں گے اور اُن کے لیے درد ناک عذاب ہے۔ ابوذر کہتے ہیں،میں نے کہا:یا رسول اللہ، کون ہیں وہ لوگ؟ وہ تو پھر سخت نقصان اور خسارے میں پڑ گئے ۔ آپ نے فرمایا:ایک وہ احسان جتانے والا جو کوئی چیز بھی دے تو لازماً احسان جتاتا ہے۱۔ دوسرا جو جھوٹی قسم کھا کر سامان بیچتا ہے اور تیسرا جو اپنا تہ بند (متکبرانہ) نیچے لٹکائے رکھتا ہے۲۔
