Hijab In Front Of Brother In Law?
There is a hadith in Sahih Al Bukhari that states:
Narrated `Uqba bin ‘Amir:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Beware of entering upon the ladies.” A man from the Ansar said, “Allah’s Apostle! What about Al-Hamu the in-laws of the wife (the brothers of her husband or his nephews etc.)?” The Prophet (ﷺ) replied: The in-laws of the wife are death itself.
Does this hadith indicate that the hijab/modesty guidelines in front of brother in law or the other in laws is much more strict compared to the modesty guidelines in front of other non mahrams, as brother in laws & other in laws are compared to death itself? Do they have to like observe niqab and avoid the in laws completely? & there are a lot of joint families in south Asian countries where parents & siblings live together with their wives & children, so avoiding brother in law altogether is extremely difficult for women in these cases.
