  • Missing Salah Due To Other Activities.

Posted by Mohammed Zubair Alam on December 21, 2021 at 1:30 am

1). We go to school, college or any other educational institutions and for this this reason we don’t get time to pray namaz . So in this case will the education become haram for that specific time ?.

2). Missing salah due to sports, or any other activities.

Example:- if someome who goes to club or any other places to practise sports or any other activity and if the timing matches with one of the timings of namaz . So will the acitvity become haram for that specific time?

3). When we watch sports in stadium we missed salah cause it’s not possible to pray at that time .

4). When we watch movies in threatre and missed salah due to this reason.

How the ruling will apply here. Does it make our activities haram for that specific time?.

    I normally feel intention matters.

When we watch matches, movies on t.v or on smart phones we can pause it for a specific time . But the cases I’ve stated above it’s not possible to leave the place to read namaz

God has given the concession of combining and shorten the prayers, of Zuhar, Asr and Maghrib, Ishar. This concession does not require a real hardship, rather, it can be availed when one finds it difficult to perform a prayer on time. This concession is given for our worldly impediments.

To follow up on this response, what if we know that despite combining prayers, we will still miss an activity?

For example, my daughter wants to join a youth soccer league. But we know that due to the short day time here in the west, she will inevitably miss prayer Zhuhr and Asr prayer before reaching home (she does not feel safe or comfortable praying in front of her peers). Would that make this activity haram for her? Should we forbid her from joining it?

By extension, does this make other recreational activities haram as well (that would knowingly result in missed prayer?) For example, my daughter also studies at the library, but will often miss Zhuhr and Asr if she goes there after school because there is no place to pray (physically – she could come home first and pray, but that would take her over an hour round trip).

What is the most reasonable course to take in situations like these? Should my husband and I move to Pakistan instead, if the lifestyle in the West is creating these issues?

There are other ways told by God to offer prayer. In Quran it is said if your fear, you can say your prayer by walking or while riding. If you are travelling you need not to perform wudu. Travelling or any situation equal to the problems of travelling, you can perform dry ablution ( tayammum)

I really like the idea of Tayammum, but can you advise on a practical way to do it when travelling? Especially during COVID times, there is no dust on surfaces due to extensive cleaning. Almost all materials at the airport are made from synthetic products, not from the earth. How can I make Tayammum when travelling in cases like these?

Similarly, as a patient in the hospital? These are sterile spaces with no dust (especially ICUs). What should I do then?

I would be truly grateful for any advice you can offer.

Dust is not required. whatever is before you, just hit your hands on that and run your face and hands till elbows. The mention of dust or soil in the Quran is for a general use of a things which was readily available. The purpose is to keep the remembrance of Wudu somehow.

Not Performing prayer in front of peers is no excuse, if it is for shyness or discomfort. Such things should not be considered hindrance. However, if one is persecuted for that only then one can be allowed to not to perform prayer in their presence.
