This is not about Islam but about Saudi Arabia. if there is problems, no need to defend it. however, we need to make clear what Islam actually is.

Religious police everywhere to pressurize people to follow religion.
Abuse against women using Sharia law.

The answer is, that the shariah for personal matters are not the jurisdiction of the government. What to wear, to drive or not, to travel alone or not, to go to Hajj or not, etc are personal shariah. The govt is not supposed to enforce Shariah in such matters.

capital punishment is there in Islamic law. against Qasas and Fasaf fi al Ard (causing corruption or chaos in the land like robbery or terrorists activities) the culprit is to be sentenced to death. A group is advised to witness the persecution, but it needs not to be a public event.
