If somebody takes oath over quran in front of Allah and himself that he will not watch porn if he did so May Allah send his azab on him. But after that he fails despite taking too much effort what will be the punishment. How to come out of this disease

For breaking oath You have to atone it with three consecutive fasts.

In oath you should not say things like may God send His azab. This is the domain of God to decide He should send it or not. We just vow not to do or do a thing mentioning God as our witness.

To avoid watching such stuff You have to make a strong decision first then find other healthy hobbies and tasks to get busy with. Find the company of pious people.

Thank you. I have another question that if a person makes a promise with another person and take oath over quran or holding quran as guarantee that he will not do so and so act or will refrain from some act then can he set himself free from such oath over quran without the knowledge or consent of other person he made promise with?

If this secret breaking of oath amounts to deception, it is unethical and a forbidden act. One may atone one’s breaking of oath but will be answerable for deception.

If, owing to some reason, a person breaks or is forced to break a solemn oath, then he must atone for it. For this, he is required to feed ten poor people with the standard of food he normally feeds his own family or to give them clothes to wear or to liberate a slave. If he is unable to do either of these, he must fast for three days.

Is it a Oath if you mention Allah’s name, or do you need to say Wallahi?v

It comes down to one’s intentions at the time of making such oath as Quran makes a person accountable for oaths taken with solemn intention as mentioned in Quran 5:89; it is the presence of a solemn intention which makes it a binding covenant with Allah. Usage of words may vary from individual to individual ranging from swearing oath on Allah’s name, making a promise with Allah, nadhr (vow) etc. can all be considered as oath with Allah if done with a solemn intention.

Is it permissible to recant vow?

    Permissible with Kaffara (atonement)

Many islamic sites says that it is not permissible to recant vow, if the recanting does involve a prohibited act. For instance i shall not look at the haram etc.

    Is this correct?

It is not desirable to break one’s vow but if one has to break it one has to pay the atonement. Having the provision of atonement tells that after all it is allowed.

How do a person pay kaffarah, meaning fasting for 3 days during ramdan. Is it possible?

  • Dr. Irfan Shahzad

Not possible during Ramadan. Fasting in Ramadan is itself a separate worship. It cannot be done for two purposes. Fasting for atonement can only be kept on days other than Ramadan.
