Member June 4, 2022 at 1:27 pmIslahi sahab wrote that “zaalika” is not used to indicate towards a distant thing (as it is usually use) but if the thing is already mentioned then “zaalika” is used (and if the thing is yet to be mentioned the “haadhaa” is used. But in that way shouldn’t be in the first Aayah “Zaalikal Kitabu La Raiba Feeh”, instead of “zaalika” “tilka” should be used, because the word surah is feminine in itself and “tilka” is used for feminine. As Ghamidi sahab also wrote:
اِس جملے میں مبتدا عربیت کی رو سے محذوف ہے ۔ اِسے کھول دیجیے تو پوری بات اِس طرح ہو گی: ’ھذہ الم‘ (یہ الف لام میم ہے)

Member June 8, 2022 at 1:35 pmCan get a little explaination. Like Ghamidi sahab wrote that:
This is Sūrah Alif Lām Mīm.
Now “surah” is a feminine word, because there is a “ۃ” at the last of “Surah”. Imam Islahi wrote:
یہاں
ذٰلِکَ
کا اشارہ سورہ کے اس نام کی طرف ہے جس کا ذکر پہلے گزر چکا ہے اور بتانا یہ مقصود ہے کہ یہ
الٓمٓ
قرآن عظیم کا ایک حصہ ہے۔
And secondly later in the same discussion he wrote that in latin the word “scripture” was used for these “sahaif” which means also “book”. But what i got is that scripture is from scriptura in latin which meant “writings” and later in English it became specific for Bible etc.

Scholar June 8, 2022 at 11:16 pmThe word Surah is used by Islahi and Ghamidi sahib as this is more familiar to us. The Quran used the word “Kitab”, here to refer to that Surah. Secondly, Zaalik refers to Alif Lam Meem, This is Alif Laam Meem, it means it refers to the name of the Surah, not to the Surah itself.
