    وَإِذۡ وَ ٰ⁠عَدۡنَا مُوسَىٰۤ أَرۡبَعِینَ لَیۡلَةࣰ ثُمَّ ٱتَّخَذۡتُمُ ٱلۡعِجۡلَ مِنۢ بَعۡدِهِۦ وَأَنتُمۡ ظَـٰلِمُونَ﴿ ٥١ ﴾

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

    And ˹remember˺ when We appointed forty nights for Moses, then you worshipped the calf in his absence, acting wrongfully.

    Al-Baqarah, Ayah 51

    ثُمَّ عَفَوۡنَا عَنكُم مِّنۢ بَعۡدِ ذَ ٰ⁠لِكَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَشۡكُرُونَ﴿ ٥٢ ﴾

    • Dr. Mustafa Khattab:

    Even then We ˹still˺ forgave you so perhaps you would be grateful.

    Al-Baqarah, Ayah 52

    It was forgiven because they repented and asked for forgiveness and still they were slain.

    فَتُوبُوا إِلَىٰ بَارِئِكُمْ فَاقْتُلُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ عِندَ بَارِئِكُمْ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ 2:54
