Muslim 2953b: Qiyamah Will Come When A Young Boy Grows Old
وَحَدَّثَنِي حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، – يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ – حَدَّثَنَا مَعْبَدُ بْنُ هِلاَلٍ الْعَنَزِيُّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ مَتَى تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ قَالَ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم هُنَيْهَةً ثُمَّ نَظَرَ إِلَى غُلاَمٍ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ مِنْ أَزْدِ شَنُوءَةَ فَقَالَ “ إِنْ عُمِّرَ هَذَا لَمْ يُدْرِكْهُ الْهَرَمُ حَتَّى تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ ” . قَالَ قَالَ أَنَسٌ ذَاكَ الْغُلاَمُ مِنْ أَتْرَابِي يَوْمَئِذٍ .
Anas b. Malik reported that a person asked Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ): When would the Last Hour come? Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (way peace be upon him) kept quiet for a while. Then looked at a young boy in his presence belonging to the tribe of Azd Shanu’a and he said: If this boy lives he would not grow very old till the Last Hour would come to you. Anas said that this young boy was of our age during those days.

Prophet Muhammad (sws) was referring to that fact that the person asking this question would’ve already died by the time this chid would grow up and hence, that persons’s Qiyamah would’ve already begun for him (could apply to both in general context as in for every person who dies and/or in specific context for direct addressees of the Rasul under itmam-e-hujjat). This point can be understood more properly in another similar narrative:

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ الْأَعْرَابُ إِذَا قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَأَلُوهُ عَنْ السَّاعَةِ مَتَى السَّاعَةُ فَنَظَرَ إِلَى أَحْدَثِ إِنْسَانٍ مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ إِنْ يَعِشْ هَذَا لَمْ يُدْرِكْهُ الْهَرَمُ قَامَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ سَاعَتُكُمْ
حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہا : ” اعراب ( بدولوگ ) جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آتے تو آپ سے قیامت کے متعلق سوال کرتے کہ قیامت کب آئے گی؟آپ ان میں سب سے کم عمر انسان کی طرف دیکھ کر فرماتے : ” اگر یہ زندہ رہاتو یہ بوڑھا نہیں ہوا ہوگا کہ تم پر تمہاری ( قیامت کی ) گھڑی آجائے گی ۔ ”
Aisha reported that when the desert Arabs came to Allah’s Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) they asked about the Last Hour as to when that would come. And he looked towards the youngest amongst them and said: If he lives he would not grow very old that he would find your Last Hour coming to you (he would see you dying).
