    Assalamualaikum,

I have heard people claiming that Nikah is a sunnat. They also refer to the a hadith, among many others, which says Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has called Nikah as his sunnat.

However, I have heard in a couple of videos of Janab Ghamidi that it’s not a Sunnat. Had it been a sunnat, Hazrat Isa (AS) wouldn’t remain unmarried because sunnat is the same for all the prophets. Also, Imam Bukhari didn’t marry.

Hence, I would request you to please clarify this because it has been seen that parents are forcing children to get married against their will in the name of sunnat. Also, if you could share some text materials or videos on this topic along with the clarification of the above mentioned hadith.

Please try to reply to this as it is important to me.

    Jazakallah Khair

Sunnah according to Ghamidi terminology is an act or ritual of religion transmitted through consensus of the whole community to next community. In this regards, Nikha is not sunnah, not a religious obligation. it is something has to be decided by the person himself or herself. However, it is recommended.

The Hadith you cited is misunderstood. The prophet while advising the people who wanted to observe celibacy and asceticism as something religiously commendable said that

    “إِنَّ مِنْ سُنَّتِي أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ وَأَنَامَ، وَأَصُومَ وَأَطْعَمَ، وَأَنْكِحَ وَأُطَلِّقَ، فَمَنْ رَغِبَ عَنْ سُنَّتِي فَلَيْسَ مِنِّي.” الدارمي [2215] بإسناد صحيح .

This is my way that i say prayer and sleep too, I keep fast and eat (don’t keep fast) too, I marry and I divorce, so he whoever deviate from my way (observe celibacy or asceticism), he is not from me.

Could you please share any article or video link of Janab Ghamidi in this regard?
