Zakat To People Who Are Facing Financial Difficulties During Hajj Travels
Assalam-O-Aleaukum,
If we assist people performing Hajj, can this be accounted for contribution from my yearly Zakat? I am asking because the individuals are not zakat eligible, they are already in Makkah and performing Hajj, however because of high cost and inflation the funds that they brought with them are not sufficient anymore and while they are in Makkah, they need financial support.

When someone needs financial support for his basic needs, he or she is eligible for Zakat. The traveler is mentioned separately to indicate that he can be taken care of with Zakat fund. On the other hand, Hajj is supposed to be performed by the person who can financially support his expenses. However, if due to some unforeseen circumstances, he faces financial problems, he can be supported by zakat fund. this is not Hajj specific. It is because some people are in problem now whatever the reason was.
However, Zakat cannot be given initially to facilitate people to perform Hajj as Hajj is a religious duty enjoined on people who can afford its expenses.
