AOA. Does unintentionally telling someone or discussing something scandalous/rightful about a public figure, politician or celebrity come under the category of Backbiting? If yes then how do we expiate for our sins.

To criticise public figures for their deeds and actions which affect public is not backbiting. However, baseless scandals and spreading rumours about them is Tuhmat. As soon as one gets aware of one’s involvement in them one should avoid it and ask for forgiveness.
